The Appalachian College Association needed an engaging workshop to kick off its New TiLTS project. The project involved librarians from 35 colleges in the southern Appalachian Mountains and had the goal of identifying processes within libraries that could be improved or shared.

CEATH Company proposed a design based on its process mapping workshop. The librarians would experience processes in a completely different environment: CEATH’s Factory on a Desk-Top™ simulation of an automobile factory. Then, they would be taught process mapping skills. Finally, they would turn their new knowledge toward mapping and improving the processes in their own libraries.

The results were encouraging for the association and workshop attendees. “The best workshop of any I have attended in 10 years,” one participant said. One library director noted that the skills were put to use “immediately” and that the skills learned would have benefits that would be “long lasting.”
